East African Coach (Development)
Ciarán looks after the development programme in Kenya. His role is to identify young cyclists with the potential to make it to BIKE AID and then set about achieving that potential.
Ciarán’s sporting background is in athletics where he was quite good as a junior middle distance runner but didn’t manage to carry it through to senior success. He began searching for answers as to why the success didn’t come. This search brought him to coaching which led to his current role with Kenyan Riders.
His academic background is in Physical Education teaching but he also holds qualifications in cycling and athletics coaching, Pilates, strength and conditioning, neuromuscular therapy and sports massage.
While mostly involved with the team’s training, Ciarán travels to local races with the Kenyan development squad and was in Asia in 2014 and Rwanda in 2012 and 2013 with the original Kenyan Riders team.
Based in Iten full-time, Ciarán co-ordinates all the Kenyan activities including looking after the Iten camp, liaising with Simon Ketoti who runs the Nakuru branch of our development programme, monitoring our scholarship cyclists and looking after admin and travel arrangements.
